Renewed Your Passport? What Happens to Your Visa Flight Reservation

Passport renewal during the visa application process is more common than you might think. Your passport might be expiring soon, might have insufficient blank pages, or might be damaged. When you get a new passport, the passport number changes — and this can affect your flight reservation.

Your flight reservation is linked to your passport details, including your full name and sometimes your passport number. If your new passport has the same name, the reservation remains valid. Airlines identify passengers primarily by name and PNR, not passport number alone.

However, if your name has changed on the new passport — even slightly, such as the order of first and last name, or an updated spelling — you may need a new reservation. Embassies cross-check the name on your flight itinerary against your passport, and any discrepancy is a problem.

The safest approach after passport renewal: book your flight reservation using your new passport details. If you already have a reservation with old passport details, get a new one. At ₹499, it is not worth risking a mismatch between your documents for the sake of saving on a rebooking.
