A well-structured travel itinerary is one of the strongest supporting documents you can include in a Schengen visa application. While not every embassy requires a day-by-day plan, having one shows thorough preparation and genuine travel intent. Here is a sample 15-day itinerary covering France and Italy.
Day 1–2: Arrive in Paris. Your flight from Mumbai or Delhi lands at Charles de Gaulle airport. Check into your hotel in the central arrondissements. Spend the first day recovering from the journey and exploring the neighborhood. Day 2: visit the Eiffel Tower, walk along the Seine, and explore the Tuileries Garden.
Day 3–4: Paris continued. Visit the Louvre Museum, Notre-Dame Cathedral area, and Montmartre. Day 4: day trip to Versailles or spend the day shopping and visiting Musée d'Orsay. These are the types of specific activities embassy officers like to see — they show you have actually researched the destination.
Day 5: Travel from Paris to Nice by TGV high-speed train (approximately 5.5 hours). Check into your Nice hotel. Spend the evening walking the Promenade des Anglais. Including your train booking reference in the application shows how you plan to move between cities.
Day 6–7: Nice and the French Riviera. Visit the old town, the flower market, and take a day trip to Monaco or Antibes. These two nights in Nice keep your itinerary realistic — rushing through cities is a red flag for embassy officers.
Day 8: Fly from Nice to Rome (approximately 1.5 hours). Check into your Rome hotel. Evening walk to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. The internal flight between France and Italy should be referenced in your cover letter even if the booking is not included.
Day 9–11: Rome. Visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican City, and Sistine Chapel. Three nights in Rome is realistic for a first-time visitor. Day 11: explore Trastevere neighborhood and enjoy Italian cuisine.
Day 12–13: Travel to Florence by train (1.5 hours). Visit the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, and the Duomo. Two nights in Florence is enough to see the main attractions without rushing.
Day 14–15: Return to Rome by train. Final day of shopping and sightseeing. Day 15: fly from Rome Fiumicino back to India. Your return flight completes the itinerary circle.
This sample itinerary covers 2 Schengen countries (France and Italy) with the majority of nights in France (7 nights vs 7 in Italy). Since it is an even split, you would apply at the embassy of the country of first entry — France. Pair this itinerary with a flight reservation showing Mumbai/Delhi to Paris and Rome to Mumbai/Delhi, hotel bookings for each city, and travel insurance covering all 15 days.
