The Schengen visa is one of the most popular visas for Indian travelers, covering 27 European countries with a single application. Whether you're visiting Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, or Berlin, you'll need proper flight documentation as part of your visa application.
Every Schengen visa application requires what the checklist calls 'proof of travel arrangements' or 'flight itinerary'. This document must include your full name as it appears on your passport, the departure and arrival airports, travel dates, the airline name, flight numbers, and a booking reference (PNR).
The VFS Global application centre — where most Indian applicants submit their documents — specifically lists 'round trip flight reservation' as one of the mandatory documents. Note the word 'reservation', not 'ticket'. This distinction is important and deliberate.
For a Schengen tourist visa, you should typically show a round-trip reservation: outbound from India to your first Schengen destination, and return from your last Schengen destination back to India. If you're visiting multiple Schengen countries, your entry should ideally be through the country where you'll spend the most time.
Common mistakes Indian applicants make with flight documentation include showing one-way tickets only (always book round-trip for tourist visa), having dates that don't match their travel insurance or hotel bookings, or using screenshots instead of a proper PDF itinerary.
Your flight dates should align with your hotel bookings and travel insurance coverage. If your hotel is booked for March 15–25 in Paris, your flight should show departure from India on or before March 15 and return on or after March 25.
At FlightForVisa, our PDF format is specifically designed to match what VFS and Schengen embassies require. Every document includes the airline PNR, flight details, passenger information, and booking status — all in a clean, professional format.
One major advantage of using a reservation service is the free date change feature. If VFS reschedules your appointment or you need to adjust your travel dates for any reason, you can update your flight reservation at no extra cost.
